We buy walnut in the slab, air-dried for at least three years, and we let the wood decide the river. The two edges are matched, never cut straight — whatever the tree did becomes the shoreline.
The channel is poured in three lifts of Abyss over four days so the exotherm never runs, then the whole top is flattened on a router sled, wet-sanded through eleven grits and finished with a hard-wax oil that you can repair at home rather than a lacquer you can't.
Base options are blackened steel or solid brass, both made by a fabricator two streets from the studio.
